For the past 2 years I've been boarding, love it but I have had to use a Carhart jacket and the snow builds up around the bottom with the little lines it has so I'm buying a new jacket for my Christmas present. I'm getting it from Burton and right now the one I'm thinking of is the Burton Defender Jacket. Its like $200 my price range is anything decent and worth the money really. If its good quality I am willing to put in good money for it. Just need to know if that jacket is a good idea or if I should keep looking around of if you guys have ideas.

Thanks for the help in advance.

AHHh ok. i'm not a big advocate of Burton but i suggest special blend or four square. they ahve some great jackets. for just outer shell protection to Insulated. i think that Burton is good but the products they make arnt the BEST in the field. but thats just my bigotry. altho i've got some great gloves from burton that i absolutely love. though they costed a shoot load

Altho.. i dont think you can really go wrong from buying from burton. their jackets are mostly good quality. but i suggest you take a serious look into other companies as well.

Dude, I bought my first puffy two seasons ago and I don't think I will ever buy anything else.  If you are looking for waterproofing and extreme warmth, feck anything but a puffy.  Like my instructor examiner said, once you go puffy you never go back. Anyway, here's my take on jackets:

Regardless of price range, you can always find a jacket for the price you are willing to pay or close to...

For cold places (Ice Coast/Northwest/Colorado): Puffy + Proper layering = SUCCESS!
For milder places (California/Spring and Summer Conditions): Any Jacket from 5k Waterproof/breathability, the higher the hotter.

I'd say you could survive anywhere with a puffy and a sweatshirt. Happy hunting.

As usual, Alaska and such places are their own beasts with their own special equipment that I know pretty much nothing about... haha.

Foursquare convertable liner series or some have a thin fill so it act kinda like a puffy but not quite as hot.  I cant wear a puffy unless it under 15degrees. Where you located at?

Burton, Billabong, Rome all do solid outwear.  If you are on a tight budget perhaps try Ebay for some cheaper deals on new or used outerwear.

Fully agree with this. I had both a Special Blend and Four Square jackets and could not rate them any higher... shame I didn't write down what model etc they were...

It's weird though because last I checked Burton owned Foursquare and Special Blend. Lol. Sorry there's no escaping.

Yah but lou being owned and being burton are different things. just like ride is owned by k2 but there still different n ride is looked at as more of a core company while k2 is like some humongaloid company. Love foursquare but not burton

I think you were right to go with the Burton one, solid jacket that can take a beating on the slopes, enjoy it!
